Do you have partial sight or low vision?
You can use your residual vision to read speedily, easily and comfortably.
WordAloud is the affordable alternative to a screen magnifier, with
several distinct advantages for your reading:
- it is very simple to use - you don't have to learn any special key
combinations;
- you can scan through text and browse using just the cursor keys.
- you don't have to move a pointer around on the screen - WordAloud
displays the text for you;
- you don't have to move your eyes - WordAloud displays text in large
characters, a word at a time, and the words are centred in the middle
of the screen;
- you can control the text colour and background colour, for best visibility,
and to be comfortable on your eyes, avoiding eyestrain;
- or you can sit back and listen to the text being spoken to you.
WordAloud is valuable for people with a variety of eye problems:
- If you have macular degeneration (MD) you can read the words by fixing
your gaze off centre, so that the words appear in a clear part of your
field of vision. You can use WordAloud to practice eccentric reading.
You can learn to read as fast as you could without MD.
- If you have tunnel vision, you can look at the words as they come
up without moving your eyes, so there is no problem of jumping from
word to word or from the end of one line to the beginning of the next
line. Thus you can read much faster than off the printed page.
- If you have an eye movement disorder or ophthalmoplegia, you are able
to read comfortably without moving your eyes.
WordAloud allows you to read any electronic form of text (e-text):
- text files stored in the computer;
- text you type in;
- text captured using a scanning pen;
- text you have scanned with an optical character reader (OCR);
- email messages and attachments;
- web pages downloaded off the Internet.
WordAloud has a unique way that you can browse text files simply
using the keyboard arrow keys. This means you can:
- quickly skim through text to find matters of interest;
- you can go back and read a sentence again at the touch of a key;
- step through the text a word at a time or a sentence at a time at
your own speed.
