"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Benjamin Franklin

Stop a vicious circle from developing..

A reading difficulty of any kind is a barrier to accessing the curriculum, to education in general. The pupil may find themselves in a vicious circle, where poor reading skills lead to slow reading and a struggle to get through their studies, which in turn means they have less time to practice reading and improve their reading skills. WordAloud allows you to break this circle in several places:

  • it helps you to identify the words that the pupil finds difficult, so decoding skills can be improved;
  • it allows the pupil to read faster while retaining meaning;
  • it can read, aloud to the pupil, any study material that you can obtain or type into the computer;
  • it lets the pupil practice reading on their own, with minimal supervision.
WordAloud can speak and display any textual material held on the computer. Such material could include books, text you have written, homework, email, information downloaded from the web, text scanned in with OCR (optical character recognition), etc.

Children with reading difficulties love the word-at-a-time display, with the large characters and the colour options, as it allows them to focus on the decoding process, without distractions, and they can just click on a word to hear it spoken, without losing the sense of the sentence. They can read at their own pace, with minimum help from an adult, and build up their reading competence and confidence.
